Just got back from two-weeks-worth of vacation out west - it was great, but a lot of time on the road. We went to the Grand Canyon, and saw some of the other National Parks (Zion, Bryce, Mesa Verde, Petrified Forest/Painted Desert) along the way.
Of all the places we went, I think Durango was our favorite. Enjoyed the horse riding and white (actually clear) water rafting. Since we drove, it was pretty much one or two nights here and there, so many different hotels. We stayed at:
Hilton Garden Inn - Albuquerque Airport
Doubletree - Durango
Embassy Suites - Flagstaff, AZ
Yavapai Lodge (East) - Grand Canyon South Rim
Hampton Inn - Cedar City, UT
Doubletree - Grand Junction, CO
Hampton Inn and Suites - Downtown Denver
Homewood Suites - Colorado Springs North
Fairfield Inn - Amarillo (*yuck*)

Just spent a week out in the LA area - actually flew into Orange County. Had a very pleasant stay at a Hampton Inn about 15 miles from SNA - really equidistant from Orange County and Long Beach airports. It is a lot cheaper to fly into
Orange County/Santa Ana however.
The Hampton Inn I stayed at was great - brand new and in a pretty nice area. There were ample restaurants and shops nearby including El Torito, Taco Bell, and Baskin Robbins. Read the
full review of the hotel here. It's right next to the Yamaha building so they serve Miso soup and rice as part of the Hampton breakfast.
We went to a Dodgers game - it was great. What a great place to see a game - the stadium (classic retro 60s) and surrounding area were awesome. It was far, but easy to get there - the 91 to the 110 and exit at Dodger Stadium. Plenty of parking - worth every bit of the $10. The concessions are expensive, and the Dodger Dog is nothing to write home about.
Quick trip to Houston, nothing much except got to stay at the Hilton Americas - that was worthwhile. Read the
full review here.
